Ta Xua peak is a truly challenging route with a difficulty level that ranks among the top of the mountains in Vietnam. The terrain is quite complex, with about 50% of the journey requiring you to walk along the edge of cliffs. If it rains, the route will be even more difficult because the red dirt roads can be very slippery.
With these characteristics, trekking Ta Xua Mountain will have high requirements for participants. You should only choose to conquer it if you have experience in mountain climbing and have carefully prepared your physical strength.
The mountain path is quite steep and rugged, bringing many difficulties to the climbers, but it is completely worth it for the unique and wonderful experiences of the special and majestic natural scenery that it brings.
Geography Location of Ta Xua
Location: Located in Ban Cong commune, Tram Tau district, Yen Bai province.
Note: Do not confuse this location with the Ta Xua cloud hunting spot! Although they are on the same mountain range, their locations are completely different.
The Ta Xua Peak for trekking is located in Ban Cong commune, Tram Tau district, Yen Bai province. Meanwhile, the Ta Xua cloud hunting spot is located in Bac Yen district, Son La province.
Best time to trek to Ta Xua
The weather at the top of Ta Xua Mountain is cool in the summer (with a maximum temperature of around 27 degrees Celsius) but quite cold in the winter (with sometimes dropping below 3 degrees Celsius).
To have a smooth and safe journey, you should choose to climb Ta Xua Mountain from around October this year to April next year. At this time, the weather is quite pleasant, neither hot nor cold, and importantly, it is also the time when the natural scenery here blooms.
However, during this time there may be days of cold weather or fog. If you encounter such weather conditions, you should postpone your climbing plan!
How to go to Ta Xua
From Hanoi:
You can take a bus from Hanoi to Nghia Lo, and then take a motorbike taxi to Tram Tau, or rent a taxi from Hanoi to Tram Tau
From Ho Chi Minh City:
If you are traveling from Ho Chi Minh City, you need to travel to Hanoi first by plane, train, or bus depending on your needs. After arriving in Hanoi, you can choose the option to travel to the foot of the Mountain in Tram Tau as mentioned above.
From other provinces:
For those of you coming from neighboring provinces of Yen Bai such as Bac Ninh, Hai Phong, … you can take a direct bus to Tram Tau. As for other provinces such as Nghe An, Thanh Hoa, Da Nang, … you should travel to Hanoi and then take a bus for convenience.
Trekking route of Ta Xua
Day 1: Ha Noi – Tram Tau
6:30 PM: Depart from Hanoi
12:00 AM: Arrive in Tram Tau, check in to your homestay for the night.
Day 2: Tram Tau – Ta Xua Shelter
6:00 AM: Wake up, enjoy breakfast, and prepare your belongings.
7:45 AM: Take a transfer vehicle to the village of Ta Xua.
8:00 AM: Start trekking to conquer Ta Xua Mountain.
11:30 AM: Lunch break at a breathtaking viewpoint (“million dollar view”).
1:00 PM: Continue trekking, crossing through grassy hills, bare mountains, and the legendary “Dinosaur Spine.”
5:00 PM: Arrive at the overnight shelter, settle in, enjoy the scenery, and prepare dinner.
7:00 PM: Dinner and rest at the shelter.
Day 3: Ta Xua Shelter – Peak – Tram Tau – Hanoi
3:30 AM: Wake up early, have breakfast, and get ready to summit Ta Xua.
4:30 AM: Begin the pre-dawn climb, enjoying the sunrise on the way.
9:00 AM: Reach the summit of Ta Xua (2,865 meters)
11:30 AM: Lunch break, pack up your belongings, and start descending the mountain.
4:00 PM: Take a transfer vehicle back to Tram Tau.
6:00 PM: Dinner at a local restaurant.
7:30 PM: Board the vehicle for your return trip to Hanoi, estimated arrival time between 11:00 PM and 11:30 PM.
