At an altitude of 3,147.3 meters, Fansipan is the highest mountain in Vietnam, as well as in the Indochina region, which includes Laos and Cambodia. Nicknamed “The Roof of Indochina”, The mountain is a challenging destination for adventure enthusiasts and tourists who are passionate about exploring nature with diverse and impressive mountainous terrain.
Geography Location of Fansipan
The Peak is located about 9 kilometers southwest of the center of Sapa town. It is the highest mountain in the Hoang Lien Son mountain range, located on the border of Lao Cai and Lai Chau provinces, in the Northwest of Vietnam.
Best time to trek to Fansipan
Unlike other tourist destinations, where you have to go during the “tourist season” to experience the “specialties” of the destination, with Fansipan trekking tours, you can freely choose the time that suits you best.
Because here there are always “4-season specialties” to treat visitors at any time of the year.
Spring (February – April): Coming to Fansipan this season, you will have the opportunity to see the flowers blooming all over the mountains and forests of the North in the cool weather.
Summer (May – July): Fansipan is now a summer flower paradise, with clusters of red azaleas, pink roses, climbing roses, sunflowers, morning glories, hydrangeas… full of fragrance.
Autumn (August – October): Trekking Fansipan on your own this season, you will admire the golden rice terraces like poetic natural paintings.Winter (November – January): You will have the opportunity to admire the unique snowfall on Fansipan peak.
How to go to Fansipan
Depending on your time, physical strength, weather conditions, etc., you can choose the most suitable route for you. Currently, there are 3 trails with different routes. Those are:
Tram Ton Road
This route is the popular choice for those who are first-time trekking Fansipan. Because it is mainly an easy trail and takes about 1-2 days.
Trekking along the Sin Chai -Tram Ton
The average time to complete this route is from 2-3 days. The Sin Chai – Tram Ton trekking route has very beautiful scenery, extremely suitable for those who love adventure and discovery.
From Cat Cat village
The longest route with the highest slope and the most difficult of the 3 routes. You will have to move with constantly changing terrain and obstacles along the way. Therefore, this route will be suitable for experienced trekkers
Trekking route of Fansipan
Day 0: Ha Noi Sapa
22:30: Move to Sapa by BUS.
Day 1: Sapa Tram Ton Sheter
5:00 AM: Rests, eats breakfast, and leaves unnecessary items here.
8:00 AM: Start to move to Tram Ton – the starting point of trekking, about 30 minutes away.
12:00 PM: Arrive at the 2200m rest stop. Rest and have lunch here then continue the journey.
5:30 PM: Arrive at the 2800m rest stop. The shelter here are built of bricks so they are very solid, built into 3 separate Sleeping – Eating – WC areas. There are sleeping bags and thermal mats for everyone.
6:00 PM: Cook and socialize with everyone in the group.
Day 2: Fansipan – Sapa – Hanoi
4:00 AM: Wake up to take care of personal hygiene, have breakfast and enjoy a hot cup of coffee with the cool air of the mountains.
4:30 AM: Leave your backpack at the hut. Bring water and selfie gear to go to the top.
7:00 AM: Reach the top of Fansipan. There is a beautiful panoramic view here. If you go fast, you will catch the sunrise of the roof of Indochina.
8:00 AM: Return to the 2800m hut.
10:00 AM: Rest and have lunch here. Then start heading back to Tram Ton Station.
4:00 PM: Arrive at Tram Ton Station. Get on the bus back to Sapa.
4:30 PM: Relax in a Dao herbal bath.
7:00 PM: Enjoys salmon hotpot – a specialty in Sapa.
10:00 PM: The group gets on the sleeper bus to return to Hanoi.
